YWCA CAMP CAVELL WINTER PHOTOS

Winter ICE Storm hits YWCA Camp Cavell, Work Weekend Rescheduled!

Camp was hit hard by the Ice Storm that lasted for two days. This weekend was to be our work weekend with 50 volunteers all set to come up and give a hand to open camp!  Work weekend will be moved to April 11th!

By Friday night it was evident we would have to cancel!  Ice was building up on every surface.  We lost power, phones and the pumps to pump water.

Woody locked the gates Friday evening for the first time he can remember.

It was down right dangerous to be down in camp.  Limbs were snapping and falling all over the place.

Carlo insisted on hanging out outside, Tulio was the smart one and stayed inside!

It broke their corral in three places.

We were hit hard at the horses where Yadro & Nick are currently living.

Yadro was frightened, but old Nick just kept munching his hay.  They made it through just fine!

The old white pine trees with their thick cluster of long needles were hit the hardest.  This tree is the one by the sports field that everybody sits under!

It is sad to see old friends like this apple tree loose half her limbs.

The MDA wishing tree made it through ok!

By Saturday afternoon the sun peaked out a few times and the icicles glistened everywhere.

The sun worked its power by relieving some of the weight on the trees.

More of the ice cracked off as the wind blew the limbs around. The ice sparkled on the branches.

We have a lot of clean up to do!  If anyone would like to help just call Woody or Marian at camp.  We could sure use you!

Spring has to be on its way!  We are looking forward to seeing you all then!
