The Stanley Cup made an
unscheduled stop in Lexington, Michigan where it had was brought by Kelli
Ilitch and Bill Wellman its handler to MDA Camp! |
|
Here Kelli poses with kids while "Whimpy" the
owner of Wimpy's Hamburgers is
in the background keeping things moving. It was quick stop since the
cup was not even scheduled to be here and was in Detroit early this morning
and had come from a showing early this morning as well.

The Stanley
Cup represents championship hockey, but, it is also a humble trophy of a
humble sport. And, while honoring the hard work and dedication of the 2008
Detroit Red Wings, it also serves as inspiration to anyone who gets the
chance to see it in person. That chance will come for several kids attending Muscular Dystophy Camp at YWCA Camp Cavell in Lexington, Mich., tomorrow when the Stanley Cup makes a special visit to honor some young heroes who fight a daily battle against an unforgiving opponent, Muscular Dystrophy. |

Nothing touches the heart more than to see smiles and courage on the faces of kids who are facing incredible challenges in their everyday lives. A special group of these kids attend Muscular Dystrophy Camp at YWCA Camp Cavell in Lexington, Michigan. Each year a group of volunteers including doctors, nurses, therapist, and caregivers work long hours and give up a week of their lives to give these kids a camp experience that includes a wonderful dose of love, support, and courage! For some of these kids there is always the uncertainty of returning for future years. That is what drives this group of dedicated volunteers to make each camp year incredible! |
